Stanley Martin Lieber, known professionally as Stan Lee, was born December 28, 1922, in New York City. He rose to prominence as the editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics from the 1940s through the 1970s.
Along with artists like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Lee co-created iconic characters that revitalized the comic book industry. These include Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and many others.
Lee revolutionized comics by giving superheroes relatable personalities and internal conflicts, departing from the flawless, idealized characters of the past. He also engaged directly with fans through his "Stan's Soapbox" column and convention appearances, fostering a strong sense of community.
Later in life, Lee served as chairman emeritus of Marvel and made cameo appearances in numerous Marvel films and television shows, solidifying his status as a pop culture icon. He passed away on November 12, 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy in comics and entertainment.
